What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are downloaded to your device (for example, your computer, tablet or phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to keep them secure, to remember your choices, and to help website owners understand how their site is used.
Similar technologies, such as pixels, tags, local storage and scripts, can serve similar purposes. In this Cookies Policy, we refer to all of these as “cookies” for simplicity.
Some cookies are set directly by us (first-party cookies) and others are set by third parties, such as analytics providers or embedded services (third-party cookies).

Types of Cookies We Use
We use the following categories of cookies on our website and shop:
Strictly necessary cookies
Performance and analytics cookies
Functionality cookies
Advertising and social media cookies (where used)
Strictly necessary cookies
- These cookies are essential for our website and online shop to work properly.
- They enable core features such as security, page navigation, shopping basket functionality and access to secure areas.
- Because they are necessary, they are always active and do not require your consent.
Performance and analytics cookies
- These cookies help us understand how visitors use our website, for example which pages are most popular and how people move around the site.
- The information is aggregated and helps us improve how our website works and plan future content.
- We only use these cookies with your consent.
Functionality cookies
- These cookies allow the website to remember choices you make, such as your cookie preferences and items you have added to your basket.
- They help to provide a more personalised and convenient experience.
Advertising and social media cookies (where used)
- If we use advertising, remarketing or social media integration, these cookies can be used to deliver ads that are more relevant to you or to measure the performance of campaigns.
- They may also be used when content from third-party platforms (for example, embedded videos) is displayed on our pages.
- We will only use these cookies with your consent and you can withdraw that consent at any time using the tools described below.
Cookies Used on This Website
site_session This strictly necessary, first-party cookie provided by The Soil Searchers keeps you logged in and remembers your navigation preferences during a visit, expiring as soon as you close your browser.
cookie_consent_status This first-party functionality cookie from The Soil Searchers stores your accepted or rejected cookie preferences for up to 12 months.
shop_cart_id This strictly necessary, first-party cookie provided by The Soil Searchers saves the items placed in your shopping basket so you can complete your order, lasting for the session or up to a few days.
Payment Gateway Cookies (e.g., PayPal) These strictly necessary, third-party cookies are set by our secure payment processors when you proceed to checkout. They are required to authenticate your payment session, process the transaction securely, and prevent fraud. They are strictly necessary and expire according to the payment processor's own security policies.
shop_recently_viewed This first-party functionality cookie from The Soil Searchers remembers products you have recently viewed so they can be presented again, lasting for up to 30 days.
_ga, _gid (example) These third-party performance and analytics cookies from our analytics provider collect anonymous statistics about page visits, time on site, and links clicked to help improve performance, with _ga lasting up to 2 years and _gid up to 24 hours.
Advertising or Social Media Cookies These third-party advertising cookies from our partners are only active if you consent, operating to show relevant adverts, measure campaign effectiveness, or enable embedded media, with durations typically lasting up to 2 years.
Email Tracking and Pixels In addition to website cookies, we use small invisible images called "pixels" within our email communications, including membership renewals, dig notifications, and account alerts.
- Purpose: As our Terms & Conditions make it a strict requirement to read all communications, these pixels tell us whether you opened the email, the device used, and whether you clicked on any links. This ensures critical system messages are being received.
- How to Opt Out: You can prevent tracking pixels from activating by disabling "automatic image loading" in your email client (such as Gmail, Outlook, or Apple Mail). By changing your settings to "Ask before displaying external images," the tracking pixel will not load unless you actively choose to download the images in that specific email.
Managing Your Cookies
When you first visit our website, you may see a cookie banner or preferences panel that allows you to choose which categories of cookies you want to accept. You can change your choices at any time by revisiting your cookie settings (where provided) or adjusting your browser settings.
You can usually configure your browser to block, delete or alert you about cookies. How you do this varies by browser, so please refer to your browser’s help section or settings menu for detailed instructions.
Please be aware that blocking or deleting some cookies, particularly strictly necessary and certain functionality cookies, may affect how our website and shop work. For example, you may not be able to log in, stay logged in, or complete a purchase if these cookies are disabled.
If you disable analytics or advertising cookies, we will stop using those tools for your device from that point onwards, but this will not remove data that has already been collected by those providers in line with their own policies.
However, rejecting cookies may prevent you from logging in or using subscription-based services. For more information, visit AllAboutCookies.org
